I like a little sweet after dinner...

Somehow, Eric ends up wheedling a Popsicle out of us after dinner on a nightly basis. Sometimes it's a tootsie pop, but we usually do some kind of dessert. I feel like a nightly treat will demystify sweets a bit, but I also figure I like to lie to myself and sometimes I don't always know the difference.

I like to have a little treat after dinner, whether it's a bowl of ice cream or a brownie or whatever, so who am I to tell my kids they can't have one, provided they eat a relatively healthy meal.

Yesterday was Rich's 34th birthday. So, I made a pie for him because we're doing birthday cake tonight, and well birthdays call for spectacular desserts. Kaylee finished her dinner and started yelling "LOL POP!" meaning she wanted a teeny tiny tootsie pop, but we held her off because we all wanted to eat pie together.

We managed to distract her until she saw me putting the whipped cream on the chocolate cream pie. "THAT!!" She howled pointing to the pie. "AWANTHAT!" (I want that!)

"You want some pie, Kaylee?"

"PAE! ME! PAE! ME!!" She shrieked like a tiny banshee in purple leggings until a small piece was placed in front of her with a spoon. She had never used the word pie before last night, but made sure to learn it for the occasion.

Rich and I spent the rest of the evening yelling "Pie! ME!" just to amuse ourselves (and it worked, I know, it's sad).

In other news, I'm doing the happy dance because Eric decided he liked the gluten free bread that they sell at Trader Joe's for $3.50 per loaf. Considering that most other GF breads start at bout $6-$10 per loaf and he doesn't eat them, I am kind of excited. He made himself a sandwich today with 2 pieces of Muenster and the bread in the middle. OK, so it's not quite a sandwich, but it's a hell of a lot easier than pasta. Last night he had a pile of cottage cheese and a couple of pieces of bread that we had made. It's the first time that I haven't made pasta in 24 hours in like, I don't know two and a half years? Cheese sandwiches, GOOD.

Enough food talk. I've got to go frost Rich's birthday cake.
