Hear that?

Nope. I don't hear anything?

This is the conversation I just had with myself. The house is suddenly quiet. Eric's stomach is better and he's back at school after an entire week of being sick and/or cooped up with mom due to the unrelenting rain we've been experiencing here in Somerville. It's been so bad that they're closing schools all over the state.

Given all that, it was a surprisingly good week. Rich stayed home to work and lend moral support because I had never been alone with both kids for more than a couple of hours. But he went back on Wednesday and the final report on the rest of my week with the kids was very positive. Once Kaylee is on a regular nap schedule, it would be even easier. For some reason, she'll sleep nearly 8 hours at a stretch at night in her crib, but her daytime naps are light and agitated. She'll only sleep for about 20 minutes at a time. By the end of the day she's screaming for sleep and I jiggle her and whisper and nurse and lay her down drowsy but awake. She falls asleep in her crib and I don't hear a peep out of her until 2 or 3 AM. I change her diaper, bring her into bed with me and Rich and we nurse for a while and we're both back to sleep, usually within a half hour.

But I digress. I spent 3 solid days with both kids in the pouring rain and I not only survived it, but I really had a good time. Eric has been great with Kaylee. When she cries, he tries to find her a binky. He doesn't try to climb on my when I'm nursing. I do let him watch teletubbies when I need to do an extended nursing session, but for the most part, he's been really good. I'm really excited to see them interact in a few months when she'll really be able to react to things he does. He'll wave toys in front of her now and she stares at him intently, but her smiles are few and far between.

It was an exhausting week, but I think it would be a lot easier if Eric didn't have a stomach bug. There were a LOT of diapers to change between the two of them. But Eric peed in the potty last night (pretty much out of nowhere, it was his own idea.) Hopefully this means we're a little closer to having only one kid in diapers.

I can dream, can't I?
