Eric's been waking up a lot in the night again. Twice I've gone in there expecting him to be curled up like a little frog and fussing his way back to dreamland. But NO he's standing in his crib sobbing as if somebody told him that he'll never eat honey-nut cheerios again. This is devistating. Because I can't just put him back down because his diaper is very wet and I can't expect him to go back to sleep like that. So I slap on a new diaper, give him a nice hug and lay him back down. He stays there for a minute and looks like he's going to settle, then I start creeping towards the door.
His head pops up.
I put my hand on the door and he pulls himself into a standing position and begins to chat. At this point, my bladder is about to burst. (that's what I get for trying to mother before peeing) So, I let him fuss for a minute while I take the longest pee in the HISTORY of pee while he gets more and more upset. Then I go back in, lay him down and he usually goes back to sleep within 10 or 15 minutes. Except last night, when I attempted to put him back to sleep without the diaper change, figuring he usually doesn't get one because he's asleep.
20 minutes after I put him down he's really crying again. This time, I'm guessing it's teeth. So I go in with a little tube of liquid ibuprofin. He usually likes taking it once I can get it in his mouth, but he was crying and crying and it took a while for me to get the tube in his mouth. Once I did he drank it down. Then I changed the diaper and put him down where he thrashed and cried.
Then it happened. A giant fart burst forth from his little tussy and he gave a happy little sigh and went right back to sleep.
I wish I could say the same for me. I can't fall asleep at night. I'm braced for him to wake me up. It takes me hours. It's almost as if I can't fall asleep until he's needed us once, because I think it's going to happen.
So, I get more and more exhausted. I really miss sleeping with him, but that was just as bad. I'm wondering what changed between the week or two when he was sleeping through until 5 or 6 and now. Perhaps it's teeth. Perhaps it's gas. Perhaps he's receiving new instructions from his home planet.
Sigh. I'm tired. Maybe Emerson will invest in Metronaps.
