Hurry Up!

One of the things I like the least about my post-work personality is that I'm always rushing the kids. When I wasn't working, I had all the time in the world to do just about everything with them. If they took an extra hour to get out the door on the way to Trader Joe's well, so what? It killed an hour of a fairly long and sometimes lonely day. Children, especially MY children don't do anything quickly. They dawdle, they meander, they waft, they play, they wander when they're really supposed to be putting their shoes on. And I'm ALWAYS in a hurry these days. I'm in a hurry to get the kids out the door in the morning, I'm in a hurry to get them to bed at night because if they don't get to bed on time, they are pretty miserable the next day. My kids need a LOT of sleep.

I need to slow down when I'm with them, but I have such a hard time switching gears. And usually I have to BE somewhere, or I really want them to go to bed. I just seem to have no patience for dawdling these days. I think I need some.
