Thousand Mile Stone

Eric had a graduation from preschool on Wednesday. His last day was Friday. The graduation was fun. The kids came in and put plastic lei's over their mother's head. When E put mine on, I grabbed him and hugged him and he went soggy in my arms and hugged me right back. I do not take this for granted. I will not get these big soggy puppy hugs where I can kiss him as much as I want indefinitely. Eventually he'll grow out of it. But for now I am hugging him as much as possible.

He'll be 5 a week from Monday, which seems crazy. Five is pretty big, right? I think he would be ready for kindergarten this year, he's reading and writing quite a bit these days. However, I'm at peace with the extra year that he will be getting at Capuano. I just found out that his friend O had the same teacher we're getting this past year and that O's family was VERY pleased with her. Now that the logistics of driving him miles out of our way every day have been dealt with, I'm feeling pretty good about the whole thing.

In other fascinating milestone news, I suddenly have strange dark hairs growing out of my chin and upper lip that seem to grow about a half inch every night in spite of my diligent and painful plucking. The chin ones don't hurt, but the space between my upper lip and my nose seems to be a hotbed of nerve endings that only attach to the dark hairs. But for now, the pain is livable because I'm SO not ready to have a mustache. Perhaps in a few years, I'll rename this blog "Me my Mustache: A Woman's Story." Or maybe I'll start a new blog for bearded ladies and detail my adventures as a woman with stringy black facial hair. But it will at least not until after my 40th birthday in 2 years. Then, perhaps I will not pretend to wear my crocs ironically and will start to do all my clothes shopping at Target. But for now I'll keep a'plucking.
