I live one block away from the Star Market/Shaws on Beacon Street. Aside from an incredibly friendly and helpful staff, this is the worst supermarket around. They recently tried to sell me a bag of chocolate ships for $4.50. "They're on sale," the kind checker told me and swiped my card. Then they rang in at $4.00. I put them back. At Stop and Shop a bag of Ghiradelli chocolate chips is $2. Honestly, I don't know how they stay in business. Their dry goods are frequently out of date. Boxes of cereal cost $1-2 more than they do at Stop and Shop. Their produce is wilted and old.
But the prices? They're totally out of control. It's like having a really big Store 24 close by. You only shop there when you absolutely need something NOW. I think a lot of folks that shop there, like college students just don't have a good sense of how much groceries should cost.
Alas. Have I really gotten this boring?
Happy Holidays from the old lady shaking her finger in disgust. Yeah, that's me.
